A  36-year-old Atlanta man who faked being gay to gain a lesbian's trust has been convicted of raping her. Taurence Callagain met the woman in 2015 at a transit station on the west side of the city. The two eventually exchanged numbers after riding the same train, according to a statement from the Fulton County District Attorney's office.  "The victim is a lesbian and has a female partner who she was in a relationship with when she met the defendant," the office said. "Callagain led the victim to believe he was gay, so she was under the impression that their relationship was strictly platonic." Weeks later, after the victim missed the last bus of the night, Callagain offered to drive her home, according to the DA's office. He then claimed that he needed to stop at his house to pick up marijuana, and the victim followed him into his home. A gun battle between combined team of vigilante and Police against bandits at Gurbi village in Kankara LGA on Thursday has resulted to the death of 21 persons. The dead persons include 17 members of the bandits and four members of the locality that have already been identified. A trans woman has been murdered in Puerto Rico and a purported video of the shooting has been shared online. Neulisa Luciano Ruiz, better known as Alexa, was shot dead on Monday morning hours after police were called on her for using the female toilets at a McDonald's. Police received reports of someone "peeping" on people using the restrooms. When they responded to the reports, they found no proof, and the complainant didn't try to press charges after learning Alexa was homeless. However things took a sinister turn when pictures of Alexa being accosted by the cops at the restaurant was circulated online. Within hours she had been shot dead, and police are now investigating if a video being shared on social media captured the moment she was gunned down. The Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District at the national assembly, Ajibola Bashiru has debunked claims of senators collecting a jumbo pay.  Speaking on the sideline of a programme organised by the Correspondents Chapel of the Kwara Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Thursday February 27, Senator Bashiru revealed that Senators only earn N700,000 monthly.  The Osun-born lawmaker further disclosed that a car loan of over N8 million is also being deducted from their salary on a monthly basis.  Bashiru said;  “What I tell whoever that stands up to say senator collects jumbo pay is that they can also contest so that you can also collect jumbo pay.  “The truth of it is that the take-home pay of a senator is about N700,000 per month. Iran’s Vice President tests positive for Coronavirus

Iranian Vice President, Masoumeh Ebtekar has tested positive for coronavirus as confirmed in a state news in Tehran on Thursday February 27.  Iran's Health ministry spokesman, Kianoush Jahanpour who confirmed the development in a press conference said the tally of infections had risen to 245 with 106 more cases confirmed,  the highest number for a single day since Iran announced its first infections on February 19. Ebtekhar who advises President Hassan Rouhani on family and women's matters has already been placed under quarantine. Lagos state records first confirmed case of Coronavirus in Nigeria

The Lagos state Ministry of Health has confirmed the first case of Coronavirus aka COVID-19 in Nigeria, since the outbreak of the disease in China in January 2020.  A statement released by the state Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, says the case, which was confirmed on the 27th of February 2020, is of an Italian citizen who entered Nigeria on the 25th of Feburary from Milan, Italy for a brief business visit. He fell ill on the 26th February and was transfered to Lagos State Biosecurity Facilities for isolation and testing. COVID-19 infection was confirmed by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. He said the Italian patient is clinically stable, with no serious symptoms, and is being managed at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos. Pornhub responds to petition threatening to shut down site for promoting/aiding child sex trafficking

The world's largest pornography site, Pornhub, with over 33 billion website visits annually, has responded to a lawsuit leveled against it, urging the courts to shut down the site because of the role it plays in aiding child sex trafficking. According to Nonprofit organization Exodus Cry, who are behind the lawsuit, Pornhub allegedly lets users upload sex trafficking and child rape films without consequence and allows the films to be hosted on their site, thereby promoting sex trafficking globally, considering the worldwide reach of the porn site.             In the lawsuit, Exodus Cry revealed that a 15-year-old girl was recently found after being missing for a full year when her mother received information that Pornhub had videos that featured the girl being sexually abused. The Senate during Thursday's plenary session, criticized the measures put in place at the nation’s point of entry by the Federal Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in the country.  Deputy Leader of the Senate, Senator Ajayi Borofice pointed out that the measures the Ministry of Health instituted at the nation's ports is quite different from the South African government's response.  Borofice who disclosed that passengers are screened in the airplane before being allowed to set foot in South Africa, said Nigerian health officials only hand out sheet of papers at airports to international passengers, indicating how they can be contacted when there is an emergency. The Iranian government has threatened to flog and imprison anyone caught 'spreading fake news' about the deadly coronavirus outbreak that has already killed 26 people in Iran.  Hassan Norouzi, a spokesman for parliament’s legal and judicial committee, said 'spreading lies' is punishable by one to three years in prison with flogging, in accordance with Shariah law.  'Spreading fake news over coronavirus outbreak will [make] people panic. Blogger behind fake 'EFCC cell' tweet and photos arrested

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the blogger who shared "fake photos" of the anti-graft agency's cell in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.  Port Harcourt Zonal Head of the Commission, Mr Usman Imam announced arrest of the blogger identified as Dikeocha Chukwuebuka, during a press briefing with newsmen on Thursday February 27.  A remorseful Chukwuebuka reportedly admitted his error in publishing the picture which he said belonged to another agency, and also apologized to the EFCC and his followers for the false and misleading report. Kobe Bryant's sister, Sharia Washington has gotten a new tribute tattoo to honour the late NBA legend and his daughter, Gianna. The father, 41, and daughter, 13 died along with seven others in a devastating helicopter crash on January 26th. On Wednesday night, Sharia took to her Instagram page to reveal her tribute tattoo in honour of Kobe and Gianna. The tribute tattoo has a black Mamba snake around the numbers, 2 and 24, which were Gianna and Kobe's basketball jersey numbers.  Sharia captioned the snap: 'Thank you @peterbarriostattoo,' followed by prayer hands, a snake and a heart emoji. 

Iyanya gets 20 Million Naira bail over alleged car theft

An Igbosere High Court in Lagos has granted singer Iyanya bail of N20million over alleged car theft. Justice Mobolanle Okikiolu-Ighile, on Thursday, February 27, ordered Iyanya Mbuk to produce a surety in the like sum, who should also have landed property in Lagos with a Certificate of Occupancy. The judge warned the Kukere singer that the bail shall be revoked if not perfected within seven days. Justice Okikiolu-Ighile said: "I have perused the affidavit and the counter-affidavit of the parties; there is a prima facie case of criminal conversion against him. "However, there is nothing to show that the defendant will interfere with the proceedings of this case and nothing to show that he will jump bail if granted bail. "Bail is therefore granted to the defendant in the sum of N20 million with one surety in the like sum." The judge adjourned till May 27 and 28 for trial. Death toll from Lassa fever hits 118 in Nigeria

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced that 118 people have died from the recent Lassa Fever outbreak in the country.  According to the NCDC, 2633 suspected cases, 689 confirmed cases and 118 deaths have been recorded in the country from January 1 to February 23.   The number of casualties has increased significantly from what was reported for the same period in 2019. At same time in 2019, 1249 suspected cases with 381 confirmed and 83 deaths were recorded.  In NCDC's previous statement, it was gathered that 27 states have recorded at least one confirmed case across 115 local government areas.

Pope Francis has reportedly taken ill and cancelled an event at a Rome basilica just a day after he prayed for coronavirus sufferers in Italy. According to the UK Mirror, the pontiff prayed for coronavirus sufferers on Ash Wednesday, while mask free, and even took time to shake hands and kiss worshippers, including a child, in St Peter's Square at the Vatican. The publication also added the pope appeared to have a cold and spoke with a slightly hoarse voice at his general audience on Wednesday and coughed during an afternoon Ash Wednesday service in a Rome church. Speaking during the mass at St Peter’s Square, the Pope showed solidarity with coronavirus patients amid the alarming outbreak in Italy. Young man comes down from a cab, jumps off third mainland bridge into Lagos Lagoon (photos)

Another young man attempted to commit suicide in the early hours of today February 27, after he alighted from a cab and jumped into the Lagos Lagoon on the Third Mainland bridge. According to RRS who shared photos from the scene, the young man who tried to kill himself by jumping into the lagoon, however landed on floating logs of wood beneath the Third Mainland Bridge. The victim was rescued but sustained varying degrees of injury. He was then rushed to the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, where he was later referred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital. The cab driver when interrogated by RRS officials, said he picked the yet-to-be-identified man from Igando, a suburb of Lagos. “I carried him (the passenger) from Igando and he insisted I pass through the Third Mainland Bridge. On getting to the bridge, he asked me whether this was Third Mainland Bridge and I answered yes. He told me that he was pressed and that I should wait for him to ease h...
