Mike Adenuga Foundation, donates N1.5b to fight COVID-19

The Mike Adenuga Foundation (MAF), established by business mogul, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr., has donated the sum of N1.5 billion to the government to support Nigeria’s fight against the global Coronavirus pandemic, otherwise known as COVID-19. The money is made up of N1billion to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) which is coordinating efforts to raise funds from corporate bodies to support the initiatives aimed at combating the COVID-19 in Nigeria, and N500 million to the Lagos State Government, which has recorded the majority of the cases of the pandemic. Mrs. Bella Disu, Executive Vice Chairman of Globacom, presented the N500 million cheque to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in Lagos today, Monday, while a representative of the Foundation presented the cheque for N1 billion to the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele in Abuja. Senators donate 50 percent of their salaries to support fight against coronavirus

Nigerian senators on Monday, March 30, announced that they will be donating 50 percent of their salaries from March to support the fight against coronavirus in the country.  In a statement made available to newsmen by the upper legislative chamber's spokesperson Godiya Akwashiki, the Senate disclosed that their monthly contribution would continue till the country is declared free of the disease. Coronavirus: FG sues Prince Ebeano Supermarket, Bakan Gizo Pharmacy & Stores, H-Medix and Faxx Stores for increasing prices of hand sanitizers

Four supermarkets and pharmacies have been sued by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission for increasing the prices of hand sanitizers following the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.  The four supermarkets; Prince Ebeano Supermarket Limited and its proprietor, David Ojei, and Bakan Gizo Pharmacy & Stores Nigeria Limited and their representatives, Ray Opia and Luter Irene, H-Medix Pharmacy & Stores Limited and their representatives, Sandra Ejekwu and John Oluwagbemiga, as well as Faxx Stores & Trading Limited and its representative, Adogah Ahmed, were slammed with a six-count charge which centred on the arbitrary increase in the price of hand sanitizers, hand-wash liquids, disinfectants and other anti-bacterial products of different brands.  In the lawsuit filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, the outlets were also accused of "exploiting the national public health emergency of COVID-19 (...

Prince Charles recovers from coronavirus and is out of self-isolation

Prince Charles has reportedly recovered from coronavirus and is out of self-isolation following his diagnosis for the deadly disease. The Prince of Wales 71, had spent seven days self-isolating in Scotland after testing positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday, March 25th. His wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, 72, was also tested and did not have the virus, but also began self-isolating. A Palace official has now confirmed that the prince is out of self-isolation and is currently in good health.  His spokesman said: 'Having consulted with his doctor, The Prince of Wales is now out of self-isolation', adding that the heir to the throne's self-isolation lasted 7 days was in accordance with government and medical guidelines. NAFDAC orders production of Chloroquine for the clinical trial treatment of Coronavirus

The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, says the agency has ordered the manufacturing of Chloroquine for an emergency stock for the clinical trial treatment of Coronavirus. In a statement released this morning, Professor Adeyeye said the old antimalarial is now being repurposed for the clinical trial treatment of novel Coronavirus. According to her, some countries have started the use of Chloroquine for the treatment of COVID-19. Don Jazzy chose to take the high road by giving 100,000 Naira to a follower who insulted him online. It began with the record label boss tweeting: "Baba GOD abeg where make I stand so that when manna fall, e go fall inside my basin. A follower responded telling him to keep quiet. Don Jazzy then asked the follower what the matter is, writing: "What's the matter? Are you hungry? You can talk to me. I can help if u don't mind. What's wrong with you?" The follower admitted that he's hungry and has nothing to eat due to the coronavirus lockdown and Don Jazzy sent 100, 000 Naira to his account. Other followers responded, begging for money too and he sent to more people. This prompted a lot of Twitter users to ask Don Jazzy to keep quiet, hoping he will send them money too. He has now responded and warned them about telling that to the wrong people.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has come out to assure Nigerians that the coronavirus pandemic will soon be a thing of the past. According to the 2019 PDP Presidential candidate, if Nigerians are open about it and carry out isolation and testing, the virus will soon be a thing of the past. He also stated that the virus was not a death sentence while also praising Governors El Rufai and Bala Mohammed for publicly stating their positive test results. Princess Maria Teresa of Spain becomes first royal to die from Coronavirus

Spanish Princess Maria Teresa of Bourbon-Parma, who is the cousin of Spain’s King Felipe IV, has become the first royal to pass away due to coronavirus complications.  According to People, María Teresa" who was dubbed the 'Red Princess' because of her outspoken views" died in Paris on Thursday, March 26.  The princess was a professor at Sorbonne University in Paris, and at Complutense University in Madrid. The princess, a loyal advocate of women's rights throughout her life was never married.  Her brother Prince Sixto Enrique de Borbon, the Duke of Aranjuez, announced on Facebook that she died after contracting COVID-19.  Along with a photo of the princess, the prince wrote: 'S.A.R. Coronavirus: Israel evacuates over 274 citizens from Nigeria

274 Israeli citizens have been evacuated from Nigeria following the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.  Mr Yotam Kreiman, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Israeli Embassy in Abuja oversaw the evacuation process which is part of the Israeli government's effort to protect its citizens from contacting coronavirus (COVID-19).  Speaking to newsmen at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Kreiman stated that the evacuation became necessary due to the global increase in cases of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Israeli nationals were evacuated on a direct flight to Israel by a private Nigerian airline, making it the first time there will be a direct flight to the country from Nigeria. Passengers onboard the aircraft include embassy staff and others working for private companies in Abuja.

A man who filmed himself licking a toilet bowl while taking part in the "coronavirus challenge" is now reportedly ill in hospital with the deadly disease. In a video posted on TikTok, the man can be seen placing his mouth around the toilet bowl and extending his tongue to lick it. The man who chose to take part in the challenge is now sick in the hospital, according to Piers Morgan on GMB. A Nigerian lady who goes by the name Madam Praizzy on social media has accused her parents, Bishop Jude Nkemdilim Chukwumaife and Pastor Favor Agaezi Chukwumaife of abusing her sexually and physically. 21-year-old woman with no pre-existing health condition, becomes youngest person to die of coronavirus in UK

A 21-year-old girl identified as Chloe Middleton from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire has become the youngest person to die of coronavirus in the UK.  An 18-year-old boy died from the virus in the UK on 23 March, but he was being treated for "significant underlying health issues" as confirmed by Professor Kiran Patel, chief medical officer for University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
