Lagos State presents cheques to families of the 23 deceased victims of the Abule-Ado explosion

The Lagos State Government has presented cheques to the families who lost their loved ones in the Abule-Ado explosion.

On the morning of Sunday, March 15, 2020, there was an enormous explosion that led to the loss of lives and properties in Abule-Ado, Satellite Town, Lagos.

The damage was extensive and the Lagos State Governor and his Deputy visited the scene of the explosion the following day. During the visit, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced he was launching a 2 Billion Naira relief fund for victims.

Deputy Governor of Lagos, Dr Obafemi Hamzat announced on Twitter today, April 22, that the families of the 23 deceased identified by the state have been presented with relief cheques

Sharing photos from the presentation of the cheques, he wrote: "Today we presented cheques to the families of the 23 deceased victims of the Abule-Ado explosion. We hope the money will help provide some relief even as they miss their loved ones. We are also working with safety, power & other stakeholders to find a lasting solution to issues."

NEWS: Nigerian man Victor Alonge sentenced to 10 years in jail for romance scam by US court

Olu Victor Alonge , charged along with six other Nigerians in a multi-year wire fraud scheme, has been sentenced to a 10-year imprisonment by a court in Georgia, United States. He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Timothy C. Batten, Sr., on October 30, 2019 and ordered to pay $1,835,279.00 in victim restitution, according to a statement by the Department of Justice U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Georgia. Alonge, 35, known also as Serge Damessi, Didier Baraze, Mobo Marcus Adeh, Ayo Baraze and Nicolas Soglo had pleaded guilty to an online dating website scheme. Three other Nigerians have also pleaded guilty to the 60 counts of wire fraud, money laundering, identify theft and the use of false passports. “The conspirators in these cases, including some who were overseas, used fake personas on online dating websites to trick individuals, including elderly retirees, into giving them large amounts of money,” the statement said. 41- year- old Mrs Nyarum Luka Bot Balewa who recently was delivered of quadruplets after waiting for 15 years without a child, has cried out to Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed to come to the aid of her family by offering her employment to enable her to cater for the babies.
