Zimbabwe's Ministry of Health and Child Care has confirmed the country's first death from coronavirus.  Radio/television host, Zororo Makamba, who was the son of telecoms tycoon and politician, James Makamba was the second person to test positive for the coronavirus in Zimbabwe.   The country's ministry of health confirmed that the 30-year-old succumbed to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after he was hospitalised over the weekend.  Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa also confirmed his death in a statement saying:  “I have received the news of the passing on of Zororo Makamba with great shock, extreme sadness and a deep sense of shock. He is a victim of the worldwide pandemic that is Covid-19” “I extend my sincere condolences to the Makamba family as well as to relatives and friends of Zororo Makamba. Four new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria, bringing the total to 40. According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, 3 of the new cases are in Lagos State and 1 in FCT Two of these cases are returning travellers. According to the NCDC, as at 11:00pm on the 23rd of March, there are 40 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. 2 have been discharged with 1 death recorded.

A Pakistani Doctor who spent the past weeks screening and treating coronavirus patients in the Middle East country has reportedly died of the disease.  American-Pakistani activist @_SJPeace_, said the doctor identified as Usama Riaz knew there was no Personal protective equipment (PPE), but he persisted in treating patients with coronavirus.  He wrote;  This is Dr. Usama Riaz. He spent past weeks screening and treating patients with Corona Virus in Pakistan. He knew there was no PPE. He persisted anyways. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday evening in a live televised address ordered citizens to stay at home unless it’s for work, as he declared the fight against Coronavirus “a national emergency” - He also stated that anyone found breaking the rules will be fined at least £30 - and up to £1,000 if they fail to self-isolate. Johnson was angry that a lot of Brits were disobeying government advice by going to pubs and public places despite the thousands that have been infected and hundreds killed by the virus. The announcement from Johnson comes after it was revealed that 46 more people had been killed by the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 303. A University Of Juba medical student identified as Mangong Mel Ayuel was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend, Ariech Majook Kuot on Friday night, March 20. M Jose Mèl was allegedly killed hours after posting on Facebook: "Imagine The World Without Girls...Who Will Lie To Us" According to reports, the deceased was allegedly killed by his girlfriend after he jilted her for another lady. Meanwhile, friends of the deceased have taken to Facebook to mourn his death with some calling out the girlfriend who allegedly committed the murder. A Nigerian Facebook user, Onah Blessed Emmanuel spotted a group of Methodist Church women lying on the road in Ukpute, Benue State, while praying against Coronavirus. Emmanuel who shared photos of the women praying said he wasted no time in joining them in the prayer. The International Monetary Fund on Monday warned that people should brace up for a recession which could be far worse than what global markets suffered in 2009, due to the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world. IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva called on advanced economies and bigger countries to provide more support to low-income countries while also pledging that the IMF is ready to give out all of it's 1 trillion dollars fund to stem the financial crisis that could be brought by Coronavirus. According to the IMF, nearly 80 countries around the world requested the IMF's help amid the coronavirus crisis. An itinerant Muslim Imam from Bangladesh has died in The Gambia after preaching in several other countries. The preacher, aged 70, is Gambia’s second recorded case of Covid-19. Recall that the Gambia recorded its first case of coronavirus last Tuesday. The patient, a young woman who had recently travelled from the United Kingdom, went into self-isolation after feeling feverish, before being confirmed as a positive case. The Ondo state government has placed a 14-day ban on all political, religious and social gatherings in the state. A statement by Donald Ojogo, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, described the new development as part of the effort to stop the spread of Coronavirus in the state. The statement in part reads ''1. Government hereby places total ban on all Political, Social and Religious gatherings in the State for 14 days in the first instance. 2. Gatherings at clubs, beer parlours and joints are prohibited until further notice. 3. All Civil Servants from Grade Levels 01-12, except those on essential duties as may be determined by their respective Accounting Officers and Chief Executives, are hereby advised to stay at home for now.
